Koi Neko v9 ch71
Koi Neko v9 ch72
Koi Neko v9 ch73
Koi Neko v9 ch74
Koi Neko v9 ch75

I have a substantial buffer of chapters of Koi Neko ready (i.e. ch74~83). I’m going to be releasing them on a weekly schedule like this:
1st, 7th, 14th, 21st, 28th, 1st..

In any case, my package with Ichinensei’s last volume arrived. Unfortunately, it’s unbelievably hot right now (32°C). So, I’ll debind and scan it as soon as it cools down enough. Kindly give me your moral support, so I can avoid burning the left side of my right index finger, or cause the glue to sandwich between two pages like last time, please~!

Also, these are the things that also arrived with Ichinensei’s last volume:

I’ve been following this series since it was mentioned with great praise a little over a year ago, and I think Mizusawa Yume is an extremely charismatic writer. “Ore, Twintail ni Narimasu” is basically a madcap parody of the Super Sentai genre with a cast of eccentric and weird characters. The story begins with the main character, Mitsuka Souji, giving a 3-page ode to the twintail hairstyle, thus establishing himself as a maniac. After which, the story really begins with Souji eating a late lunch with his childhood friend, Tsube Aika, at a café owned by Souji’s insane mother, Miharu, who suffers from Chuunibyou (A syndrome where she suffers from the same delusions as a second year middle schooler). Earlier that day, Souji unintentionally wrote “Twintails” in school because there wasn’t a “Twintail Club”, which led to the teacher scolding Souji, and Souji talking back to the teacher. Despite the café being closed, a tall foreign-looking girl called Thoearle (Or Thouars) was listening to Souji’s ranting. Thoearle decides that Souji’s the one she’s going to use to stave off some alien invasion because his love of twintails is over the top, which is to mock other Sentai stories where the warriors are powered by love, justice, family, friendship, or how many digits of pi they know (Pi Rangers). So, Thoearle tries to diplomatically, and then forcefully make Souji wear some henshin bracelet that causes him to transform into a little girl with twintails, thus begins Thoearle’s reign of terror.

I think the best way to describe Thoearle is that some aspects of her physical appearance is similar to Lala from “Toloveru Trouble” in that she’s an alien who’s tall, has long hair, big breasts, wears a lab coat, and lives in a secret base Miharu had built underneath her café. Unlike Lala, who has a plain personality, Thoearle is a pathological liar that can come up with the most complex and convoluted pieces of BS with a seek-time of zero. It’s not immediately obvious that she’s lying, but when Souji and Aika begin to unravel the truth behind things like why Souji becomes a little girl, and why Aika has a costume with a slit down its chest, it becomes clear that the reason Thoearle was lying about these things was because she’s also a bully that gets a perverse thrill out of humiliating and demeaning Souji and Aika (the only person Thoearle treats with respect is Souji’s mother).

Also, the best way for me to describe the invading aliens is to picture the Xenomorph from the movie “Alien”. During the scene where the crew crawls into the ducts, and finds the captain. Instead of being in some makeshift cocoon, the captain is found sitting on a pink-coloured sofa while stroking Jonesy the cat as the Xenomorph stands off to the side watching intently.

I wouldn’t mind if this somehow manages to gain a manga adaption done by a competent artist, though I think an anime adaption would be terrible, since I doubt there’s any voice talent who can do many of these characters justice. Though, speaking of anime adaptions, is the “C³—C-cube” anime any good? I remember asking Gamerkun a long time ago, but he said that a friend labeled it as moe-trash. I like the books because they’re written by Minase Hadzuki, who is one of my favourite Japanese writers, particularly because he appeals to my fetish of having massive amounts of text flying around in his flash movies on his homepage. I love lots of text flying around the screen, one of my favourite games for the Sega Saturn called “Baroque” had a really awesome intro with flying text (I recently found out that this had a remake for the PS2/Wii, though the graphics look rather low-budget, and the voice acting doesn’t have the charm of the claustrophobic text from the original).

I think “Nekogurui Minako-san” has some of the coolest covers that I have seen for a manga. If anyone is curious, the things that the characters are shouting are the following:
Vol.1 ねこすきいいいいい (I looooove cats)
Vol.2 またたびいいいいい (Catniiiiip)
Vol.3 な…撫でなさいっっっ///// (Pl… Please pet meeee *blush*)
Vol.4 猫こそ正義っっっ!!!!! (Cats are Justiiice!!!!!)

This is similar to other manga where the cat characters are anthropomorphised as nekomimi (e.g. Chokotto Hime). Though, this particular series takes the love of cute little kitties to an absolutely, disgustingly ridiculous extreme. Ailuromania: The Manga, if you will. Also, under the jacket are the true faces of the characters in this manga, like so:

It’s kind of funny how people prefer the young of OTHER species to their own. Imagine sitting next to a human baby. Now, imagine sitting next to a basket full of kittens! If your face begins to look like Minako’s in the above image when you imagine the latter, then congratulations! You’re a cat faggot~♬

Good luck! If you need moral support I’ll give you all I can. I’ve been reading your work for many years now. Keep it up.

PS: I feel your pain. It is 92°F where I live (about 33°C). Also, I’m a cat faggot un~♬

  2. Leso says:

    I love you! <3
Thanks for the translations. I always eagerly wait for them.
    Cat faggot as well :P

  3. Geese1 says:

Thanks, as always, for the new chapter!

  4. Cat Faggot says:

    Who summoned me?!

  5. Anonymous says:

Oh hey I recognize Puchi Hound. It was licensed in my country until the company that licensed it died off.

  6. Kemm says:

I also recognize Puchi Hound. Never got licensed in my country, and I don’t think it will be. I was being translated by Hidoi from May 4th, 2009 to October 30th, 2010 with a grand total of 13 chapters released, and never again was ever seen.

If you could please translate it after you finish some of your current series, I will be thankful. I think there are nice public raws out there if you don’t want to debind yours.

  7. DatGuy says:

Good luck! I wish you success, good sir! =)

  8. Taruby says:

OK, I finished debinding the entire 9th volume of Ichinensei along with the magazine with the 3 colour pages for GPU ch20.

I did not experience any serious mishaps. Though, a lot of the pages got blown around the room, so I’ll have to manually resort them using my other copy (this is one of the reasons you should buy two copies when you scan manga).

Thanks to everyone who gave me confidence. I’ll reply to each comment individually later. Right now, I’m going to sort the pages, and then begin scanning.

  9. Taruby says:

    Page Sorting Complete——.

  10. thatswhytheycallme says:

I see a couple thing I read in that list. Lets see…

I see you also read Yamada and the 7 witches. Good choice. Yamada has got that badass+dumbass thing going. Great over-the-top reactions that are even more hilarious when he switches bodies with Shiraishi. Don’t care much for the live-action dramaso far, but I’m still hoping an anime gets announced and does the series justice.

I also see that you read Boku wa Mari no Naka. I read several chapter awhile back (up to the part where s/he get her period). The plot does an interesting take on the body-switching scenario. It’s an interesting story, but I hate all the characters and how they interact with each other. I’ll have to pick up and read more of it when I’m in the mood for it. It’s kinda like Watamote in that you just have to be in the right mood to read it or you’ll just hate it.

    Of course Ichinensei (lol).

Thanks for the heads up on Ore, Twintail ni Narimasu! Based on your synopsis, it sounded fun, crazy, and right up my alley. I went looking for a scanlation, but sadly, couldn’t find any groups working on it.

I’m not sure if I’ve brought this up before, but have you read Ame Nochi Hare? If so, what are your thoughts on it?

Keep up the good work, Taruby. We appreciate your continued efforts!

  11. Taruby says:

Comparison between my scans and the raws floating around:

If you look really carefully, you can sort of see the bleedthrough in my scans. There also seems to be a problem with the tones forming a pattern on the lower half of Mikuru’s leotard. However, these things look like they’ll be easy enough to fix. All in all, I’m happy with how things turned out. Hopefully, the other problem pages with severe bleedthrough will turn out to be as nice.

    @thatswhytheycallme:
Just a quick answer, “Ore, Twintail ni Narimasu” is a light novel, so it’s unlikely to have a scanlation (I don’t think very many light novels get translations, unless they’re ultra popular like “Toaru Majutsu no Index”). It’s easy to visually tell light novels from manga because light novels are usually A6, whereas the smallest manga are B6.

  12. Kemm says:

@Taruby “Ore, Twintail ni narimasu” is marked right now as a “Teaser Project” (i.e. project that people want to read but without many people to work on it) at Baka-Tsuki. Currently, only the prologue of the fist volume has been translated:

  13. Taruby says:

Ichinensei ni Nacchattara v9 ch54 is in the proofreading stage. I’ll release it on the 7th, or 14th depending on how things work out.

  14. Taruby says:

Ichinensei ni Nacchattara v9 ch55 is now in the proofreading stage. Archer is busy with classes, so I might need to push back ch54′s release to the 14th (If I keep finishing chapters at my current pace, I might finish v9 before then).

  15. Taruby says:

Ichinensei ni Nacchattara v9 ch56 is now in the proofreading stage.

I’ll get Koi Neko ch72 ready for release for the 7th, and then work on Ichinensei ch57.

  16. Taruby says:

Koi Neko v9 ch72 is ready for download. Please check the topic post for the link.

  17. Chutril says:

Koi Neko AND Ichinensei! You’re a hero Taruby! Thanks!

  18. Geese1 says:

Thanks for the new chapter of Koi Neko!

  19. Anonymous says:

Oh god bunnygirl Rin. I can now die in peace!
Thanks for always updating Taruby, it’s a shame you had to scan Ichinensei yourself, but none of the raws on the Japanese P2P were of high quality sadly.

  20. Taruby says:

Ichinensei ni Nacchattara v9 ch57 is now in the proofreading stage. I scanned, cleaned, edited, and typesetted 102 pages, since September 4th… that’s kind of freaking incredible, actually.

@Anonymous: Considering the rate that I’m finishing these chapters, I think it was a good thing that I scanned the volume myself, especially since I can easily snap the two-page spreads together (I don’t have to redraw large portions of the art, or worry about scale differences like I do with the raws that were circulating on Share).

  21. sandor says:

I would rather have the company of a basket of kittens than a basket full of maggots, and I would expect that to be the case not just of a typical human, but for the kittens to be objectively preferable. I believe an alien from another planet which isn’t anything like a mammal, which couldn’t be classified as an animal, which doesn’t even have particularly similar biochemistry, would almost certainly make the same assessment. Why then should it be unreasonable or even strange to make the determination that the kittens would be preferable to human larvae just as they were to the fly larvae? Naturally I would expect the comparison to be a somewhat closer one objectively, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t still an objective winner, and I am almost as confident which one it would be. It doesn’t take some bit of weirdness or lapse in reasoning to make this conclusion. Anyone who has had contact with any NORMAL human grub and isn’t its parents and isn’t otherwise biased toward it should know that they have no redeeming qualities. The only interesting thing you sometimes can do with them is get them to grab your finger.

  22. Taruby says:

Ichinensei ni Nacchattara v9 ch58 is in the proofreading stage. Two chapters left to go.

  23. SomeLoser says:

^_^ basket of kittens and new InN!

  24. Taruby says:

Ichinensei ni Nacchattara v9 ch59 is in the proofreading stage. One chapter left to go~!

Archer hasn’t sent corrections for ch54 yet, so I don’t know if that chapter will be ready for the 14th. =/

After I’m done with ch60. I’ll finish what’s left of Koi Neko ch83, and then do the 3 colour pages for Greed Packet Unlimited ch20. If Nateinu doesn’t send scans for v11 of Koi Neko, I’ll go back to working on Neko de Gomen’s 7th volume, and Aoi Umi no Sashimi’s 2nd volume for J-comi.

  25. Taruby says:

Ichinensei ni Nacchattara v9 ch60 is in the proofreading stage. THE END~!

It took me roughly from 7:18 on the 4th to 6:33 on the 10th to finish this volume.

I don’t know many other translators besides Gari from Solaris-SVU, who scans, translates, and edits manga. Gari is ahead of me in the amount of manga he has worked on. Actually, now that I’m bringing this up, I do feel fairly dismayed when people compare me to commission-scanlators like SaHa and desudesu. I don’t have a donation banner, or advertisements and the like on this site because I don’t want to financially profit off this hobby, so naturally I have a slightly negative opinion toward those that do so.

    Anyway, are there any other scanlators like me, or is Gari the only one? I know I’m below Gari, but I’m wondering how high up the totem-pole I am. n_n;

  26. Taruby says:

Koi Neko v10 ch83 is in the proof reading stage. That’s it for the 10th volume~!

  27. someloser says:

I don’t know of any other triple-threat off-hand, but I’d say you’re pretty high up that totem-pole. I’ve never come across a line in one of your releases that had made me want to bash my face against my keyboard due to the sheer awkwardness of it.

Case in point – this clunker from a release that I shall not name

“The money loaners broke the windows glass again, Dad. / Are you not repaying the money properly?”

  28. Smash Attack says:

You’ve inspired me. I had no idea you were also the one doing Koi Neko’s scans! I’m probably too late for the moral support but what your work is flawless. Please keep it up!!

  29. Taruby says:

Koi Neko v9 ch73 is ready for download. Please check the topic post for the link.

Archer was unable to find time to proofread the first chapter of Ichinensei’s 9th volume (due to the nature of a chapter title, Archer has to do both ch54 and 56 before I can do a release for it).

Finally, there’s a chance I’ll experience some downtime in the future. My C:\ hard drive is suffering from a slowly growing number of bad sectors that occasionally cause my computer to hang in a strangely specific way if anything tries to access the corrupt files that were in those sectors. I’ve been occasionally checking to see if any new bad sectors appear, and some finally did a couple days ago. So, I might want to consider a replacement at some point.

  30. Tsu says:

I hope you have everything backed up. I would hate to see everything go poof.

  31. Tsu says:

Oh by the way, Koi Neko Ch73 zip file cannot be opened by default Windows. It opens fine with WinRAR though.

  32. Anonymous says:

Yup agreed, it would seem like your HDD is slowly dying so I don’t want to sound alarming but you should probably seriously backup anything important from it be it scanlations, games or professional/personal stuffs.

  33. Geese1 says:

    Thanks for the new release!

  34. Taruby says:

Koi Neko v9 ch74 is ready for download. Please check the topic post for the link.

Archer still hasn’t sent any corrections for Ichinensei’s 9th volume.

@Tsu: Thank you very much for reporting that. What happened was that despite being labeled a .zip file, it was really a .7z file. I noticed the error when I tried opening the .zip with my sequential image viewing programme “CDisplay”, but I accidentally uploaded the fixed file as .zip.zip.

@Anonymous: Don’t worry! I don’t store anything on my C:\ drive that I consider to be important, since it’s the OS drive, and those things tend to not last long, or have a high possibility of needing to be reformated. Everything important is on a separate data drive; however, I do need to clean out my external hard-drive, so I can store more than just my work and scanlation-related stuff (it’s still filled with stuff from when I was migrating everything from my old drives to my new 2tb data drive when I built my computer last year).

  35. Geese1 says:

Many thanks for the new chapter!

  36. Tsu says:

    Another Koi Neko chapter! Sweet.

  37. davidsama says:

It has been one year since neko de gomen was last scanlated and released.
Will the remaining 9 or so chapters ever be scanlated and released?

  38. Taruby says:

@davidsama: I forget if I told you this before, but I’m planning to do translations for the last two volumes of “Neko de Gomen!” for J-comi.

I have a translation script for the next chapter ready for insertion, but I’m still tired out from pulling so many all-nighters to finish vol.9-10 of Koi Neko and vol.9 of Ichinensei. I need to clear my head, so I can look over my writing for mistakes, since I don’t ask my proofreaders to check my translations on J-comi.

Actually, if you’re still here, which is more natural?
    Chain High School; Chain School
(This is using the Japanese word order use in Nekogome.)
    High School Chain; School Chain
(This is emulating stuff such as fastfood chain.)

This is referring to multiple schools under the same name.

  39. SomeLoser says:

    I prefer the second one.

“I went to the local franchise of that high school chain.”

    or

“My school belongs to that chain of high schools.”

  40. Taruby says:

Koi Neko v9 ch75 is ready for download. Please check the topic post for the link.

I’ll create a new entry when I release Koi Neko v10 ch76 on Oct.1, and I’ll reply to everyone’s comments. I wanted to do this with an Ichinensei release way back on the 7th. In any case, Archer needs to cross-check something with one of his friends in the U.S. Navy. Kona already finished proofreading v9 of Ichinensei.

@SomeLoser: Thank you very much! I’ve been slowly trying to insert a translation into J-comi, but I keep failing to connect to their server. It’s really annoying, and makes inserting/correcting text very slow.

  41. Taruby says:

OK, I inserted all of the text for the first chapter of Neko de Gomen v7, which is over 60 pages long:
    http://www.j-comi.jp/book/comic/3741

Please let me know if you find any problems, or have any suggestions. I’ll have to make another pass to change all of the text for thoughts into italic.

Later, I’m going to ask Lambchopsil over at mangaupdates one more time if I can report the translations I did for J-comi on there. I’m pretty sure he’ll say no. If that happens, I’ll stop reporting my scanlation releases on mangaupdates, and include an extra note in my future releases about why I want to dissociate myself from that community to see whether my readers are apathetic, antagonistic, or supportive. I’m not sure how I should go about asking……

  42. Geese1 says:

    Thanks for more Koi Neko!

  43. sandor says:

You surpassed a year between releases from August 2010 to August 2011 on Koi Neko and released Neko de Gomen all that time, and now you’ve been releasing Koi Neko furiously and Neko de Gomen’s past a year since the last chapter. It seems it’s kind of like quantum entangled Schrodinger’s Cats – either one is dead and the other is alive, or vice versa, but it’s sad either way.

  44. Anonymous says:

The admins at manga-updates are kinda retarded so yeh… The only reason I use it is because it’s sadly the best way to find the new manga releases.

  45. Sensualaoi says:

Im not fond of the inconsistancy of manga updates either. I kept adding releases for chilla or maskedlamaproductions to name a few, and they kept denying them usually without an explanation. Mskedllamaproductions still doesn’t have any releases listed for joshi shougakusei hajimemashita. Its probably because at the time those two groups didnt have an irc or blog and relied on corners of forums, but thats no reason not to block a release and especially not now that the later has a blog. They also blocked chapter tow of joshi shougakusei hajimemashita, probably because an anon had translated it.

Also after I released a joke chapter of nanka inumimi (ch 3), they not only removed all my chapters including legit ones from manga updates, but the entire series listing from the site. A few other people have retranslated it or sometimes just retypeset my work, but the administrators refuse to relist the series and so its like the series does not even exist which seems pretty vengeful to me.
